UCMAS Canada Inc. recently conducted its 7th Canadian UCMAS Abacus & Mental Math Competition on April 22, 2012 atht e International Centre in Mississauga, ON. This will be followed by the Awards Ceremony on April 27, 2012. About 1,700 UCMAS Mental Math students aged 4 to 13 participated in the competition, the largest competition of its kind in Canada.
During the competition, the UCMAS students are given eight minutes to solve approx. 200 arithmetic questions, using only their Abacus or mental math. The examination showcases more than prowess in Math – it’s a testament to the skills the students develop in the UCMAS program such as visual memory, focus, creativity and visualization, all of which leads to greater proficiency in Math and enhances overall academic achievement.
This year, approximately 700 prizes will be awarded to the top students across each UCMAS level. The top winners at the competition in Canada will then be invited to participate at the International UCMAS Competition which will take place in Malaysia in November 2012.
The 7th National Competition is scheduled to be hald at the International Centre, Toronto on 22nd April 2012. The awards ceremony for the same will be held on 27th April, 2012 at the same venue.
UCMAS holds an annual competition where all the UCMAS students are invited to participate.
In 2006, we had over 400 students competing at the University of Toronto, Scarborough Campus.
In 2007, we had over 700 students competing at the University of Toronto at Mississauga (UTM) campus.
In 2008, 1115 students participated in the 3rd National Competition conducted at the Ontario Science Centre, Toronto.
In 2009, about 1200 students participated in the 4th National Competition held at the International Centre, Toronto.
In 2010 and 2011, approximately 1500 students participated in the 5th & 6th National Competition respectively held at the International Centre, Toronto.
