We Heard it Through the Grapevine
Many of our students improve their grades in all subject areas after completing the first few UMCAS levels. Here is what some parents and students had to say about their UCMAS experience:
UCMAS Student Graduate, Amarajith Balasubramaniam, Scarborough, ON:
I was a part of one of the first classes of UCMAS. I started at the age of 13 and now you won’t believe it but I am 21. Before I started UCMAS I wasn’t very fond of math at all and I thought it was boring and tedious. After I started and progressed through UCMAS I enjoyed math much more and through high school I excelled in math.
Now I am studying Actuarial Science (a math-based program) at the University of Waterloo. So you know I love math. And mental math actually becomes useful in everyday tasks. I am currently on co-op working with American Express and I use mental math to keep track of numbers for analysis work. Even at University, calculating the average in statistics I don’t use the calculator, I use mental math.
UCMAS didn’t just help me in math alone but it helped me manage my time. I had to make sure to keep up with the other students, I had less time because I was older, I worked, I was involved in many school teams and obviously homework from school. UCMAS showed me that dedication will get you through anything. UCMAS has helped in many ways but those were just a couple that stuck out in my mind. I would like to thank my instructors and centre managers, Anton, Lucia, and Suren, for pushing me through and motivating me. I would also like to thank everyone who worked to bring UCMAS to Ontario. All in all UCMAS was an amazing experience and it changed my view on mathematics.
Rosemarie & Paul Calder, Oakville, ON: Our family has been very pleased with the UCMAS program and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to other parents considering additional math instruction to complement their children’s in-school programs. It has helped our children’s concentration, cognitive ability and confidence. We have seen demonstrable improvement in their math results at school. The high calibre of children attending the school has caused our children to raise their effort level but in a healthy form of competition. What differentiates this program from others is the phenomenal teachers….they are simply outstanding! Dorothy D’Souza, Mississauga, ON: Our daughter has been attending this outstanding program for the last one and a half years. She has built comfort, speed, accuracy, and confidence with big and small numbers. She uses all mixed operational signs in a jiffy and leaves her teachers and classmates in awe. We highly recommend this program, and encourage parents to give their children an opportunity to work wonders with numbers in this technology-based world.
Jyoti Iyengar, Brampton, ON: I can see eagerness (in my son, Aravind) to find out how to solve more complex sums since Aravind has already done the basics in traditional method. Aravind has been in this program (for just) 3 weeks and I can (already) see that he has improved his editing and rechecking ability and his accuracy has improved. I believe that the ability to solve problems with speed and accuracy is key to improving skills in all the areas that need thinking and applying the concepts to all areas – not only academic – in music and sports too!
N. Gnanaruby, Markham, ON: With the UCMAS training, there are great differences in my son’s level of concentration, speed, accuracy and memory. His ability to remember concepts and work independently have increased marvelously. And we have certainly seen great improvement in his math skills.
Claro & Evelyn Bombase, Brampton, ON: When asked as to whether they are satisfied with the UCMAS program, the proud parents said, “We are overwhelmed by what this program has done to Queenny (our daughter). She’s only in her 2nd lesson and we can tell that there’s a very promising future for her in math. UCMAS has finally caught her attention & eagerness. She can now solve up to 3 numbers mentally and do oral sums while lying in bed – and Queenny is just in Grade 1!” When asked whether UCMAS has specifically helped their daughter’s learning capacity, they said that “Before (joining UCMAS) our daughter could not concentrate for a few minutes when we were giving her a simple math problem and she seemed uninterested in figures.” Finally this is what they had to tell UCMAS Canada, “Keep up the good work! We salute you guys!”
D. Pascual, Oakville, ON: We’re very confident and satisfied with the UCMAS Mental Math program. We see the eagerness our two boys have shown when it comes to schoolwork and other activities. The program helps my children (stay) engaged in their activities and helps them in improving their capabilities in everyday situations in useful ways, and not just related to Mathematics. So, we as parents, encourage everyone, to take this opportunity – your children are going to love this…think UCMAS…there’s so much to learn here.
L. Xavier, Mississauga, ON: I am very satisfied with the UCMAS Mental Math program. We have noticed tremendous improvement in my son’s math skills. Now he has cultivated a “friendship” with numbers and (his) confidence in math has increased. He can utilize his mental math skills in daily activities and school homework. In addition his speed and accuracy has improved a lot.
Avisha Gudise, Brampton, ON: I am very satisfied with the UCMAS mental math program. It starts with fundamentals and paves a smart learning path for kids towards a bright future. UCMAS has greatly helped Rahul’s (my son) learning capacity. He now easily understands the importance of numbers and their utilization in daily activities and homework.” When asked whether they have seen any improvements in Rahul’s concentration, speed, accuracy, and memory, she replied, “Yes, his speed and accuracy have improved in just three classes. Understanding the concept of addition and subtraction through use of Abacus has greatly helped.” Avisha adds, “UCMAS has given a new direction towards math learning.”
Khalid Khan, Brampton, ON: How would you rate your experience with UCMAS so far? “Very satisfied”. “As parents”, says Khalid, “we have noticed a marked improvement in Adam’s (my son) math skills. In addition, he has also shown signs of learning the value of time (UCMAS is a time sensitive program)”. When asked whether UCMAS program has helped Adam in other areas, Khalid says that Adam has shown improvement in his piano and violin skills, in addition to math. Adds Khalid, “His speed, concentration, memory & accuracy have shown improvement, in the order I listed.” He believes that children must be educated in balancing speed with accuracy.
S. Salwan, Mississauga, ON: I would like to thank you for your organizational skills and your course instructor for putting amazing efforts in teaching my son the great skills that help him acheive success not only at UCMAS but also in his school curriculum. We really appreciate the hard work the UCMAS team brings to the program. I hope to see my son excel in his future assignments.
